Freezing
It is freezing here. South Africa is usually blessed with a warm climate even in winter. It rarely drops below 20degrees Celcius (68 Fahrenheit). In fact the other night I hung my clothes on the line and they were dry by morning. I still swim in winter - in an outside pool. Right now is 12 degrees with an icy wind (56km per hour) and rain. The problem is that because we have such a warm climate and these cold days happen so infrequently we are never prepared for it. We have no central heating, I only own one jacket (I only need one) nor do we have heaters or fireplaces inside. I need a nice hot meal.
What is your favourite winter food?

Mmmm, homemade chili always warms me up quick! I make a big enough pot so I can eat on it for a few days too. Sorry to hear about the cold weather there, You'll just have to bundle up with some blankets or see if you can buy a little ceramic heater somewhere. By the way, it's supposed to be 91 degrees and sunny here today. Come on over to the other side of the equator,
I do have to agree with JCarr80, chili is the best cold weather food. Vegetable Soup is also great. I hope you stay warm.
Thought its summer, a friend and I were talking food. Pork tenderloin with roasted potatoes and wilted spinach, with pumpkin soup was a meal that came up, one better for the colder weather.
Myself, I like to bake things because while the oven is on, the house gets some extra heat.
Hmmm, I almost now want it to be cold, just for a nice hot meal to snuggle up with.
@wxcruiser - I would do anything for some warmth. The temperature is 9degrees celsius - no central heating.
@Umnenga - its night, but its only 13C at my home now, and the windows are open.
@JCarr80 - Chilli is not a food we get here - obviously we get the plant. Will look for a recipe and see if I can make it
Oatmeal
Grits with cheese in the morning and it is chili for me tooo in the evening....
Don't have a favorite winter dish but I make stew or soup in the crockpot and roast chicken, pork or turkey in the oven and it also heats the kitchen. You can make chili with chicken or pork.

If you can't find the beans you can use corn or rice. I don't put sugar in mine.
