Happy Camper
Did something quite South African this weekend. I spent the night in a game park. Despite the abundance of game parks in my country it is only the third time I have been in one. For the most they are priced for foreigners and the average South African cannot afford it. It was pretty cool. We were worried we were going to freeze as its the middle of winter here but for R50 ($6.32) per person per night we thought we would chance it.
Our shack was on the banks of the Cowie River. If you go to this website www.riverhotels.co.za/mansfield/index.html and look under accomodation / platforms you can see the view we had. Very rustic and outdoorsy but fun. Thankfully the weather was good to us. I got to see Zebras, lots of buck and wildebeest. Zebras are very beautiful creatures. So that was different and fun.
Do you ever visit any of the tourist spots in your area? Which is your favourite?

In our town we have Carriage Hill, a Living History Farm that is fun and draws lots of people with the good weather. About 15 mins. away is the Air Force Museum and I have yet to see all the hangar displays as the place is huge!
I am going to go a few more times this summer with Elita to try to see the displays in the hangars we did not get to visit.
Today all the TV programming is on Michael Jackson so I will miss my usual shows until it is over. What have they been programming where you are?
@martna1 - They showed Micheal Jackson funeral last night live but it was too late for. Survivor China and Law and Order Special Victims are the only other programs I watch and Oprah. We are about six months behind on Oprah.
That sounds fantastic! We have lots of early American historical sites around here. We go to them occasionally, but they are usually so full of tourists, it's not worth it. ~ L
Lucky you! I've always wanted to stay at game park. Especially during the night, be that hearing the sounds as well.
I myself don't usually visit tourist traps. You get milked for money big time, unless it's something that is a must see then I'll actually visit it despite the other tourists. Haha.
